FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is MyHRM?

MyHRM is an iPhone and Apple Watch app that rebroadcasts your live Apple Watch heart rate as a standard Bluetooth heart-rate sensor. Bike computers, fitness apps, and gym equipment that pair a Bluetooth heart-rate monitor can then read your heart rate from the Apple Watch.

Do I still need a chest strap?

No. MyHRM uses the optical heart-rate sensor in your Apple Watch as the source, so a compatible head unit sees a heart-rate monitor without any extra strap.

Which devices can pair with MyHRM?

Any device or app that pairs a standard Bluetooth (BLE) heart-rate sensor. The Garmin Edge 840, Garmin Edge 1050, and Peloton Bike+ are field-validated by our pilot testers; other Garmin Edge models and the Peloton Bike, Tread, and Row are expected to work. See the Compatibility page for the current list.

Does it work with ANT+?

No. MyHRM broadcasts over Bluetooth Low Energy only. Devices that can only use ANT+ heart-rate sensors will not detect it.

Which Apple Watch and iPhone do I need?

An Apple Watch that records heart rate during a workout, paired to an iPhone that supports Bluetooth LE. Both the Watch app and the iPhone app need to be running when you broadcast.

Does it keep broadcasting in the background?

MyHRM broadcasts while you have an active Apple Watch workout and the iPhone app running. Keeping the iPhone app in the foreground is the most reliable setup, especially while first pairing a head unit.

Why does pairing with Garmin need extra steps?

Two things get in the way. An iPhone can only present one Bluetooth identity, so if your Garmin also has that iPhone saved as a phone it may reconnect to the phone record instead of the “MyHRM” sensor — disable the phone under Settings → Connected Features first. A Garmin Edge also pairs only one heart-rate sensor at a time, so remove any strap already connected. Testers confirmed both steps on the Edge 840 and 1050; the Setup page has the full sequence.

How much does MyHRM cost?

MyHRM is free for 7 days. After the trial it is an auto-renewing subscription at $3.99 per year, billed through your App Store account. You can cancel anytime in your Apple subscription settings.

How do I join the beta?

Sign up on the Early Access page. When a TestFlight build is ready we email invited testers a link to install it.

What happens to my heart-rate data?

Heart rate is read from a HealthKit workout on your device, relayed to the head unit you pair, and never sent to a server — there is no account. MyHRM does keep a protected diagnostic session log on your iPhone (BPM, connection states, reconnect attempts) to help with troubleshooting; it never leaves your device, is excluded from backups, and you can delete it anytime.

What happens if Garmin loses connection mid-ride?

MyHRM retries automatically — a fast retry phase for the first 30 seconds, then a slower retry every 30 seconds for as long as you keep broadcasting. Bringing the app to the foreground also triggers a refresh. If Garmin stays disconnected for 90 seconds, the app shows an on-screen warning; tap Refresh Sensor to rebuild the Bluetooth advertisement immediately.

Can I see or delete the diagnostic logs?

Yes. While broadcasting to a subscribed head unit, MyHRM writes a session log visible in the Files app under On My iPhone → My Heart Rate Strap. A trash icon in the app lets you delete all saved logs after confirming.

Is MyHRM a medical device?

No. MyHRM is for fitness and training use. It relays the Apple Watch heart-rate reading and is not intended for medical monitoring or diagnosis.
